The Koshi Ocean chime from the Earth Symphony collection draws inspiration from the vastness of the ocean. Tuned to 440 Hz, it unfolds a vast, deep and welcoming pentatonic melody, carried by twelve rods that extend its resonance.
Ocean may evoke infinity and fulfillment.
Tuned to 440 Hz, the Koshi Ocean chime has twelve rods, four of which are identically doubled at the same frequencies, also known as “sympathetic resonators.” This sonic architecture gives it greater depth and a rich, immersive resonance.
Ocean stands out with a vast, deep and welcoming sound character.
Its pentatonic melody is inspired by the ocean and may evoke boundless expanse and movement.
Its twelve rods extend the resonance and give the Koshi Ocean chime a broad and continuous resonance.
Hold the Koshi Ocean chime by its cord and let it hang freely.
Turn it gently with a slight movement of the wrist: the central clapper sets the rods into vibration and brings forth a cascade of broad and deep notes. The broader the movement, the more the rods are set in motion.
Or swing it gently in a pendulum motion to play individual notes. The Koshi chime can also simply be suspended, allowing the wind to play it through melodies that are always unexpected.
The melody of the Koshi Ocean chime can, for example, introduce and conclude a meditation session.
In sound practices, the Koshi Forest chime naturally finds its place alongside singing bowls, gongs or other harmonic instruments.
Its lightness allows practitioners to move it easily through the space, to let the sound circulate, mark a change of rhythm or guide listening toward silence.
Comprising of the notes C# D# D# F# F# B B C# D# F# B C# the Ocean melody corresponds to pentatonic B major. Its twelve rods are tuned by hand, with reference to 440 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble.
The four Earth Symphony melodies were designed to form a natural harmony. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean can respond freely to one another: each chime retains its own character while finding its place within the ensemble.
Each Koshi Ocean chime is hand-crafted at the foot of the French Pyrenees. The craftsperson solders twelve steel rods with silver onto a metal base, then tunes them one by one, with meticulous attention to their pitch and accuracy. The fine-wood resonance chamber amplifies the vibrations and gives the Koshi chime its long, clear and warm resonance.
Each chime has its own melody, tuned to 432 Hz for the 4 Elements collection and to 440 Hz for Earth Symphony.
The four melodies within a collection are designed to harmonise with one another and can be played alone or together. As the two collections have different tunings, we recommend playing them separately.
